Air Ronge Community Police Board
The Air Ronge Community Police Board was created to strengthen relationships between village residents and the R.C.M.P., and to collaborate to reduce the level of small crime in Air Ronge. Once the Board was established, the R.C.M.P. and the Community Police Board decided to implement the Citizens on Patrol Program (C.O.P.P.) This is a program where the volunteers act as the eyes of the community. Volunteers are on patrol in pairs in the community at any time of the day. If they witness any situations or suspicious activity, they then relay that information to the R.C.M.P. The R.C.M.P. then takes appropriate action as necessary. While citizens are on patrol, they remain in their vehicle at all times and simply observe. The volunteers do not interact with the suspects or remove themselves from their vehicle to attempt to rectify any suspicious activity. They simply observe, proceed, and notify the R.C.M.P.

There are numerous benefits of the program. Volunteers can be on patrol at any time of the day, and in their own vehicles. Therefore, suspects may not realize that they are being watched. This way, perhaps activities can be monitored and the R.C.M.P. can take the appropriate action in a more effective way. The program has been implemented in a number of other communities, and those communities have noticed a reduction in the level of crime.

Those who are interested in joining the Air Ronge Citizens on Patrol Program can call Shauna at (306)425-1361.
